October 2006, Shea Stadium Game 7 National League Championship Series Cardinals 1 Mets 1 Top of the 6th inning Jim Edmonds at first base, Scott Rolen at the plate, Oliver Perez on the mound, Endy Chavez in left. Throughout the year Chavez served as the Mets fourth outfielder, but with starting left fielder Cliff Floyd fighting a strained Achilles, Chavez was thrust into the starting lineup. [Read more…]
A Day For & With the Birds
I will always have fond memories of Camden Yards. It’s the ballpark were Mike and I began our tour in 2002 and the home of the ballpark revolution. If Camden Yards wasn’t built I might have not turned into a Ballpark Nerd. Nerding out at Camden Yards includes taking in the view of the B&O Warehouse from the Upper Reserve. [Read more…]
Wait Till Next Year: 2017 MLB Schedule
As the MLB season comes to a close a highlight of September, regardless of where your team is in the standings, is the release of the following year’s schedule. While some teams jockey for playoff positions, others look ahead. [Read more…]
Mets Fan at Phillies/Braves – How Can I Lose?
First, a disclaimer…I am a New Yorker by birth and lifelong Mets fan that now lives amongst Phillie/Flyer/Eagle fans in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, about an hour and a little from Philadelphia.
After a nice bicycle ride on a beautiful late summer day, September 2nd, 2016, I decided on the spur of the moment to head down to Citizens Bank Park to check out the Phillies/Braves game. Perfect weather day, and I figured the Phillies are playing the one team that I dislike more than them, so I can actually root for the home team…my upbringing taught me to dislike all the Philly teams, but being a Mets fan the one team I dislike even more is the Braves. I’m embarrassed to say this is my first time to the Park…my “nerdiness” for ballparks has just been rekindled in the past couple years after being dormant for a while. [Read more…]
Long Road to Ruin: My Day at Citi Field
Earlier this week I wrote about how on occasion all the time spent following baseball and traveling to games is worth the investment. Tonight I am here to say next time you think about taking a day off of work to travel 13 hours round trip to watch a game… stay home and catch it on MLB Extra Innings or your local regional sports network. On Thursday I traveled to New York via car, New Jersey Transit and Long Island Railroad to watch the final game of a three game series between the Mets and Diamondbacks. [Read more…]
Baseball: Youneverknow!
Investing your time following Major League Baseball can be a fruitless effort. As I’ve taken on more responsibilities it’s been more difficult to track the day to day happenings throughout the game. Baseball minutiae, like who is closing for the Arizona Diamondbacks, is replaced with remembering when bills are due and what time the exterminator is stopping by. When I was single I would watch, conservatively, thirty hours of baseball a week. When you factor in time spent managing my fantasy teams, planning ballpark trips and reading articles online I probably spent more time each week with baseball than at work or with loved ones. I can hear my wife now as I write this so let me say I am not complaining in anyway. Getting married and being a father to two children, four cats and a dog is the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s the life I wanted and am happy to be living it. Having less free time has helped me prioritize my hobbies and my interest in baseball has grown. [Read more…]
