It turns out that sometimes there IS crying in baseball. In November, we received word that retired major league pitcher Roy Halladay had died in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico. Halladay left a tremendous impression on Blue Jay fans across Canada, as well as fans of the Philadelphia Phillies, where he pitched both a perfect game and playoff no hitter in 2010. My wife Catherine and I watched the Halladay tribute hosted by the Phillies during Spring Training. Halladay’s friends, family and colleagues attended the tribute and recounted their experiences with Roy throughout the years. It was tough for me to watch. It Skipped a Generation
My dad was born in Brooklyn in May of 1936. He was the third of four boys born to Antonio and Theresa Lorenzo. They lived in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, an Italian neighborhood at the time. Brooklyn has always been a melting pot with immigrants from all over the globe settling in to start their new lives in America. With all the nationalities bringing their own traditions and customs to the borough the one uniting factor at the time was the Brooklyn Dodgers. I met Jeff Fiesta before the 2017 MLB season when he announced in the Ballpark Stampeders Facebook group that he would be traveling to all 30 MLB ballparks throughout the upcoming season. Jeff had planned several trips throughout the year and was in search of tips to get the most out of each ballpark experience. By day Craig Rose is a husband, father and engineer. By night he is a Loyal Tony Kornheiser Little, Clarkson hockey booster and Ballpark Chaser. Craig is making his way through all 30 MLB ballparks with assistance from the MLB Ballpark Pass-Port and is sharing the game with his wife and son. Last season Craig pulled off the Chicago Red Line Doubleheader with a trip to Guaranteed Rate Field in the afternoon followed by a trip to the North Side to watch the Cubs in Wrigley.
